“TOUCHING LIVES – CHANGING DESTINIES” |

|

“A crisis is an event, a set of circumstances or a sudden realization that threatens one's emotional or physical well-being and in turn, interferes with ones' routine of daily living” (Quote from training manual “Equipped to Serve” by Cindy Philkill)
The number of rape victims, teenage pregnancies, abortions and HIV is escalating and we are aware of the far-reaching implications this has on the future of our young people.
We have a very high crime rate in our country and victims are traumatized by their experiences. Victims suffer from emotional hurt and very often Post Traumatic Stress Disorder develops.
Events such as the death of a loved one, divorce and loss of employment can have similar effects on people.
Medial personnel, educators, youth workers, parents, families and communities are often faced with the heartache and trauma of such crises. They may often feel ill-equipped to deal with the issues at hand are sometimes unaware of the options and infrastructure available to them.
Our objectives:
To explore options available to people facing a crisis
To empower men and women with information in order for them to make a responsible decisions about their future
To equip young people with skills and information that will enable them to take responsibility for their lives and the choices they make
To provide debriefing in a structured way to those who have experienced a traumatic incident |

In the light of our country and its people facing crime and different kinds of crises, it is therefore necessary that people in the community will be knowledgeable how to deal with people facing a crisis. Training prepares volunteers for care ministry. A trained volunteer at this crucial time can prevent life time scars and grant the hope that comes from informed decisions.
The training will explain the dynamics of a crisis and the various stages a person passes through
A volunteer will be able to understand the feelings associated with a crisis and how to successfully and effectively intervene
During the training we will explore the concept of connecting with a client and focus on the tools necessary for effective listening and communication
Teenage pregnancies and sexual involvement will be explored
These and other subjects will be presented in a practical and understandable way by using mini lectures, group discussions, videos, role-plays and readings
